1 Timothy 2

"Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well, so we can be quietly about our business." 1 Timothy 2:2 The Message

I don't talk about politics a lot on social media, probably because my views on just about every political issue would offend virtually everyone. Imagine a hot topic, and yes, if I spoke my mind, feathers would be ruffled on both sides of the aisle.

Sometimes I feel bad about keeping quiet, especially when it's an issue I care about deeply, but I have decided social media isn't the place for me to fight political battles. This is probably because I get on social media to connect with family, friends, and fellow writers, not to get upset about what is going on in the world. I need a haven, someplace to rest from the trouble that seems all around us.

I often feel the same way about my prayer life. I don't want politics intruding. God is big. He's in control. Why does he need to hear from me about rulers and governments? And okay, maybe I don't always care for the people in charge. Maybe I don't want to pray for them.

Then I read this verse, and am reminded why we pray, so that we are not hindered from doing good, but allowed to quietly go about our business.

That is something I can pray for.
