Leviticus 16
"I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat." Leviticus 16:2 King James Version
Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest of Israel would enter the Most Holy Place of the Sanctuary (later the Temple) to meet God, face to face, at the Mercy Seat.
I will have to admit I have often focused on the death surrounding this day, the multiple sacrifices, and the idea that it was about judgement, but in reading this chapter again, I am beginning to think my entire focus was wrong. The Day of Atonement isn't about the blood, or the judgement, it's about meeting God, face to face.
And honestly, what more incredible thing could there be? If this world was created, if that Creator loved us, but we had been separated from him by tragic circumstances,is there any more wonderful thought then he wants to be reunited with us?
Atonement, or At-One-Ment. Two who were separated being reconciled, the literal meaning of atonement in the Hewbrew being "to cover."
"Love covers a multitude of wrong doings" 1 Peter 4:8.
