Psalm 19

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. Psalm 19:7 KJV

Teachers play an important part in our lives. The one who influenced me the most was Mrs. Russell. She was always encouraging, probably told me I was smarter than I really am,  and had us commit to memory a number of chapters from the Bible. One of the chapters we memorized was Psalm 19. I can still say most of it by heart, and thanks to Mrs. Russell it continues to have special meaning for me. I love the literary quality of the chapter, especially in the King James Version, and the simple truths revealed, verse after verse.

The law of the Lord (Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and your neighbor as yourself Mark 12:30, 31 Rondi Paraphrase) changes us to be people who love.

God is patient, God is kind
He never envies, he never boasts.
He always hopes, always protects,
Watches over us and heavenly hosts.

God isn’t rude, he suffers long,
He always trusts and never fails,
Don’t you want a friend like him along
As you navigate through life’s stormy gales.
