The other day I saw a news headline, and a hilarious idea popped into my head. I mean, it was so funny, and I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I created a meme and posted it (anonymously, of course) on the internet. Now this in itself isn't a bad thing. Who doesn't love funny memes? But shortly after posting it, the humor wore off and I realized something:
The meme I had posted was mean. Very mean.
Now some people might excuse such behavior. The meme had been about a well-known and often despised public figure, but I hadn't joked about that person's political positions. I had mocked them, personally, and a close family member of theirs.
Maybe you're tempted to excuse what I did, too. After all, the joke was about Him, but even though such jokes abound on the internet, I feel as a Christian I should hold myself to a higher standard. Again, it's one thing to disagree with someone's political positions, another to wish ill on them, and even make fun of something bad happening to them.
"Every word of God is pure." Proverbs 30:5
I apologize, to the person I made the meme about, as well as everyone who saw it.
Once something is on the internet, you can't take it back. Lesson, hopefully, learned.
